Our Story

Founded in 1926, United Lutheran Church was born out of a desire to have a fully English speaking church in Eugene. Although there were many Lutheran churches in town at the time, members of Trinity Lutheran Church(now known as Central Lutheran) felt their needs were not met in a mostly Norwegian speaking church. Trinity worshipped primarily in Norwegian but did have an English constitution and infrequent English services. Second and third generation immigrants felt less connected to the culture and languages of their ancestors, and desired English faith formation for their children. Following a year of dispute, United formed and joined the ULCA (United Lutheran Church of America). Since it’s foundation, United has had a focus on addressing the needs of the community and proclaiming the Gospel. United’s commitment to youth, education, community, and social justice make it a standout among Lutheran congregations. We seek to come together with people of other faiths to see what God has in store for our community.
